We offer this website as a resource to help you understand the costs of the program, so that you can make the most educated decision about graduate school. Accept your Fellowship Offer!

To accept your fellowship, you will need to accept your admission offer by submitting your $200 enrollment deposit by August 1, 2025. Submitting your deposit accepts both your admission and fellowship offers. By submitting your $200 enrollment deposit, you're accepting your fellowship and agreeing to the award and renewal conditions outlined on this page. If you wish to accept your admission offer but not your fellowship offer, please contact us at oneillad@iu.edu.

The deadline to accept your admission and fellowship offers is August 1, 2025! If you do not accept your fellowship offer and accept your offer of admission by August 1, the offer will regretfully expire.

Submit your Enrollment Deposit

You are required to submit your $200 enrollment deposit to accept your admission and fellowship offers. The deposit can be paid online through a secure site, which you can access by clicking on this box. The nonrefundable deposit of $200 is a tuition prepayment and will be credited to your bursar account during your first semester at the O'Neill School.

We would recommend reviewing your fellowship award offer and the resources provided below to ensure you fully understand your funding offer, so that you are equipped to make the best financial decision possible based on your individual financial situation.

The fellowship agreement you received outlines the total O’Neill School fellowship offer. The award listed in your fellowship letter is based on the number of credit hours required for your chosen degree program, and is based on the 2024-2025 tuition rates for the O’Neill School.

Indiana Resident Rate: $569.14/credit hour
Non-Indiana Resident Rate: $1,427.71/credit hour

O’Neill School fellowships are offered in the form of fee remissions. Fee remissions post to your IU account and disburse to your Bursar bill. O’Neill School fee remissions only apply towards tuition expenses, and only apply to your O’Neill School tuition. These fee remissions do not cover mandatory fees, or additional bursar expenses. As a result, your fee remission will only apply toward your tuition charges, and not your overall bill.

Please note that O’Neill School fellowships can only cover credits that fulfill degree program requirements. Awards are posted at the beginning of Fall and Spring semesters, based on expected enrollment. However, your award will be audited after the first week of courses to ensure your award is covering your actual O’Neill School enrollment.

If you add credit hours or reduce credit hours after the time your original fee remission disburses, the award can be updated, and either adjusted up or down depending on your addition or removal of credit hours.

You will notice in your award letter, your total tuition remission included the following stipulation:

“Fellowship offer details are conditional pending an offer of Professional Experience, Volunteer, or Military credit reduction. The total value of your award will be prorated to the total number of credit hours you are required to complete.”

As a reminder, the total tuition remission value in your award letter includes the total award amount based on your degree program and required number of credit hours. If you qualify for credit reductions, you will only receive the percentage of tuition based on the credit hours you need to complete the program.

We have provided financial resources below to help you understand your specific tuition costs, and have provided resources related to federal financial aid and additional funding opportunities.

MoneySmarts is a free resource to students on the IU Bloomington campus with the single goal of helping students make informed financial decisions before, during, and after college. Their services range from online courses, individual consultations, and more.

They also provide individual help and consultations, as well as a plethora of financial courses regarding financial wellness, budgeting, savings, and financial aid.

Utilize the MoneySmarts cost calculator to calculate your costs for the semester, based on how many credit hours you plan to take for a particular semester. The calculator factors in costs for fees, books and supplies, and more. 

You can also include your fellowship award amount as reflected in your fellowship award offer in the cost calculator. Adding in your fellowship will assist in providing clarity on your out of pocket costs.

IU General Scholarship Application

Master’s candidates are eligible to apply IU’s General Scholarship Application through searching for "scholarships" in One.IU. This application applies to a multitude of scholarships offered by Indiana University, including donor scholarships offered by the IU Foundation and the IU Alumni Association.

The IU General Scholarship Application should be submitted by March 10 for maximum funding consideration. In addition, you should submit this application every year!

Finally, make sure you’re looking at the IU Foundation and IU Alumni Association websites for additional scholarship resources that require individual applications.

The IU GradGrants Center is a resource for current master’s candidates on the IU Bloomington campus. Check out their website to review open Student Academic Appointments, funding resources, fellowship announcements, travel and research funding and more.

We highly recommend for all graduate students to submit the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) annually. The FAFSA considers students for federal financial aid opportunities, including Federal Direct Loans.

It is important to note that all federal financial aid awards and loans are offered by the Office of Student Financial Assistance and Student Central, not the O’Neill School. If you have any questions about federal financial aid or loans offered through the FAFSA, you would need to contact Student Central directly.

Award Conditions & Renewal

Your fellowship award offer contains award and renewal conditions. We have provided this information again for your convenience. Please review the important award and renewal conditions for your fellowship below.

  • Tuition remission disburses each semester. Awards will apply to tuition charges only for credits that fulfill your degree program requirements.
  • Fee amounts reflect preliminary residency status as determined by the University. Official residency status is determined by the Indiana University Office of the Registrar. The rate represented in this agreement does not represent a promise of residency status. Students must inform the MPO of any changes in their residency status.
  • Students cannot receive more in institutional funding and federal financial aid than the official cost of attendance. If another funding source covers total cost of attendance, O’Neill funding will be forfeited. In addition, O’Neill tuition remissions can only apply toward tuition expenses. If another funding source provides full tuition, then O’Neill tuition remission award(s) will be forfeited.
  • Any course and/or University withdrawal that may result in a tuition refund must be reimbursed to the O’Neill School in full by the student.
  • Must remain in good academic standing with the O'Neill School. Academic dismissal will result in termination of the award.
  • Tuition remissions can only apply towards credits that fulfill degree program requirements.
  • Tuition remissions are credited to students' Bursar accounts prior to the beginning of each semester and cannot be withdrawn as cash.
  • Students are responsible for informing the MPO of any discrepancies between the information above and award payments actually received.
  • A Director may modify or void this contract at his/her discretion if recipients do not comply with academic, award, and/or renewal policies.
  • This agreement is based on federal Affordable Care Act (ACA) guidelines and in accordance with Indiana University policy as of February 1, 2019. It may be updated, if required to comply with federal laws and regulations.

As stated previously, your O'Neill School fellowship can only cover tuition expenses, which your other departmental award would cover as well. If you receive funding from another source from Indiana University that will cover your tuition, you will not be able to accept your tuition award through the O'Neill School.

Your award shows the total value of the remission, and how much you would receive over the entire length of your degree program. Your award disburses each semester based on your enrollment. For example, if your remission provides a percentage of tuition remission, your award for your first semester would provide the percentage off tuition for the O’Neill School credits you’re enrolled in during your first semester. Your award will end once you receive your remission for the number of O’Neill School credit hours required for your degree.

No. Your total remission value shows the entire value of the remission over the length of the degree program. The award disburses each semester based on O’Neill School enrollment.
