We are super excited about orientation! We will spend 2 weeks virtually getting to know each other, learning more about this amazing program, and developing courageous leadership skills!
Orientation will begin on Tuesday, June 1st.
Orientation will be held virtually via Zoom. Please ensure you have a reliable internet connection and a webcam. Please plan ahead for Orientation! It is 40 hours a week of lecture or activities and 2 – 4 hours of homework each night. The MSHM Orientation is required for success in the program! Everything you will learn is fundamental to the coursework ahead of you.
You will receive a Canvas course invitation for MSHM Orientation. Please login to Canvas using your IU username and password to access the MSHM Orientation Canvas site. Link to Canvas
Below are weekly lists of to-do items that you must complete. Feel free to go at your own pace. Continue to check your IU email for updates and announcements. For questions, please email lnswan@iupui.edu.
All items in the lists below are due by May 31, 2021.
Week One
Instructions on how to set up your IU username and password were provided in your enrollment deposit confirmation email. If you have not already done so, please make setting this up a top priority. These accounts are essential to accessing a wide array of University platforms and resources.
Your Program Director, April Grudi, advises that you use Outlook as your primary email.
Please begin the habit of checking your IU email account on a regular basis as you will no longer receive emails from the Master’s Programs Office (MPO) at an alternative email address (i.e. Gmail, your undergraduate institution account, etc.).Further, we will hereafter ONLY communicate with you electronically via your IU email account.
One.IU serves as a one-stop portal that will allow you to register for courses, pay your Bursar bill, and complete hundreds of other university-related tasks. At this juncture, it is important to access the Student Center to see if you have any Holds placed on your account, which may prohibit you from registering for classes. If you do find a Hold, follow the directions offered and attempt to remedy it. (Please be mindful that most Holds are placed on an account from an outside of O’Neill and, as such, must be triaged by a contact in the relevant University office.)
Incoming MSHM students need to submit an updated copy of their official transcript by June 1, 2021 showing that all undergraduate degree requirements are completed or will be completed by the first day of orientation on June 1, 2021. Updated copies of your official transcript can be submitted to oneillad@indiana.edu!
Fall 2021 enrollment will be held if an official transcript is not received by June 1, 2021.
As IU Summer 2021 courses will be 100% online, it is important that you have access to a computer, tablet, etc. to complete your coursework. With the heavy quantitative work you will do in your courses, a MacBook could make completing your coursework harder. Please consider a PC device instead of a MacBook.
In addition, it is imperative that you have internet access this Summer. Please be sure to have a plan to use reliable internet service wherever you choose to attend class online and complete your coursework. A webcam is also required. Please be ready to turn your video on during Zoom meetings and classes.
Week Two
You will have the opportunity to meet Faculty Program Director, April Grudi, one-on-one to discuss your professional development plan! Please setup a meeting with Director Grudi via her Calendly link.
You will be enrolling in a 6-week professional development course with Kelley Graduate Career Services (GCS) that will begin on June 2, 2021!
Career Discovery and Design is a professional skills course that is designed to help you develop the interpersonal skills and marketing tools required to be successful in today's job market. In week 1, you will engage in self- and career-exploration and learn how you can distinguish yourself positively. In weeks 2-3, you will create a graduate-level resume and LinkedIn profile that reflect your brand. In week 4, you will build your network within the Kelley community. In week 5, you will polish your behavioral interviewing skills. In week 6, you will set a career objective and identify potential employers. At the end of the course you will submit a final project that outlines the recruiting plan you intend to follow during your graduate program to achieve your employment goals.
You will need to complete the three UITS certification courses and assignments below. Please submit these items via the MSHM Orientation Canvas site by May 31, 2021.

In the subject line of your email plus put: "MSHM Student Information".
Week Three
Incoming O’Neill graduate students are required to complete the O’Neill Graduate Onboarding process via Canvas. You will receive an email regarding the launch of the Canvas course the first or second week of May. At that time, you will complete the modules and sections in the onboarding process. The course includes information on campus and O’Neill resources, summer orientation, and academic support in the O’Neill school. The course should be completed by May 31, 2021.
It is your choice if you would like to seek academic advising for the upcoming semester. During Orientation, you will have a 1:1 meeting with Director Grudi and the MSHM courses will be reviewed. Both Alumni and Faculty will be present throughout Orientation to provide insight on courses as well! Please be on the lookout for the full MSHM course list in the coming weeks.
University Bursar bills are typically generated on the third Thursday of every month. You should expect to see your first Summer 2021 bill on Thursday, April 15th. Bills are always due on the 10th of the following month (for instance, April 15th bills are due May 10th). Any changes you make to your registration after the evening of Wednesday, April 14th will NOT be reflected on your first bill. Changes made after the first bill is generated on April 15th will show up on your next Bursar bill the following month.
Please plan accordingly and be mindful of tracking your financial aid/refunds (if applicable) so that you have sufficient funds to pay your next bill. More information about billing and financial aid can be found here.
Wrap up any items you have not completed and ask any questions that you may have before your early June orientation, registration of courses and start of summer classes.
